The Shorty Awards – MailChimp Makes 2nd Runner Up to Honorable Mention

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

shortyawardsThanks to all our customers who helped vote for MailChimp in the Shorty Awards. We got it up to 130 votes, but we still lost to Tweetdeck, which is a great app to lose to. Congrats to HootSuite (which I’m using everyday now and am growing quite fond of), for grabbing #2! HootSuite is apparently a MailChimp customer (I just got their newsletter), so I’m kinda glad we lost to them. Heck, the ShortyAwards itself is a MailChimp customer too. Such an honor to be considered among so many other newfangled apps. I think it’s because of our social integration, which Mashable was kind enough to recognize here. If you didn’t make it to NY for the ShortyAwards, you can watch it online, via LiveStream (ahem, also a MailChimp customer). </ name-dropping> BTW, I kinda thought the Suze Orman clip, where “Mark Z” calls in to buy Twitter, was funny.

Twitter-to-email Tutorial

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

One thing we do with our @mailchimp twitter account is we tag our favorite tweets from customers. For example, if someone tweets something like this:

You "fav a tweet" by clicking the little star in the corner

You "fav a tweet" by clicking the little star in the corner

we click the little “favorite” star, and it gets saved in our list of favorites. It’s basically like bookmarking a web page, but for tweets. We then dynamically pull those favs into our MailChimp website (such as on our testimonials page). On the side, we’ll occasionally send those nice tweets around the office by email.

Then Amanda, our Chief Twitter Officer, realized something cool: all our favorites are available via RSS feed, so we can actually use MailChimp’s RSS-to-email tool to automatically send twittermonials to our entire team. Here’s how…

Find Us At 140 | The Twitter Conference

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Next Tuesday and Wednesday (September 22 & 23) MailChimp will be at the Twitter Conference in Los Angeles.

140tc

Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter, and Tony Robbins will both be keynote speakers at the event. Other presenters will be covering a range of topics, from branding to social gaming, tweeting celebrities and beyond. We definitely look forward to stuffing our brains full of new and interesting information and are also excited about meeting some of our users on the west coast. If you’re in the area and want to say hi, just give us a shout.

As MailChimp’s list of social media features continues growing, it seems only natural for us to attend the Twitter Conference. Especially with our new Twitter Template and our recent research showing that Twitter is being used more frequently than Facebook in email marketing. Oh, and you also know that you can track tweets and re-tweets about your email campaigns in your MailChimp dashboard, right? Hey, and don’t forget about our built-in integration with Twitter and other social sites, mmkay?

Mashable/Regator Mixer

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

mashatlMashable and Regator are teaming up to organize the first ever Mashable event in Atlanta, where MailChimp also happens to be headquartered. (Shameless plug, but OK– we’re also one of the event’s sponsors.) Originally limited to 200 tickets, the mixer was slated to be held at the PASTE magazine offices in Decatur, Georgia. Demand was so overwhelming that Mashable and Regator decided to print an extra 100 tickets and move the event to a bigger space though.

Adding Social Sharing Links to Your MailChimp Campaigns

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Here’s a nice example of a MailChimp customer (T in the Park) using the new social sharing links in their email newsletter footer:

This is a relatively new feature at MailChimp that lets your subscribers share your campaign via twitter, facebook, digg, reddit, linked in, and other social sites. If you’d like to add this to your MailChimp campaigns too, just insert this little tag: *|MC:SHARE|* in your footer (or wherever you want) and we’ll do the rest.

Another cool merge tag to try: *|TRANSLATE:EMAIL_LANG|*
