MailChimp’s New Look

November 10th, 2008 | by Ben

MailChimp’s new logo design has made its way into the app’s interface, and he’s got more funny things to say, thanks to our customers.

We got lots of famous movie lines, some music lyrics along with a video, and something that is apparently a popular Scottish cartoon. We think.

If you submitted a quote via our MailChimp Fan Page, and we selected it, you’ll be getting a MailChimp t-shirt in the mail shortly. Thanks!

In addition to the new logo and messages, MailChimp customers will notice the interface has been freshened up a little, and the color scheme is a little softer on the eyes. We’ve also added a bunch of new video tutorials throughout the interface. Hope you likey!

I love the new look, but I miss the eye contact from the original chimp! I feel more love when it looks me in the eye…

    • Amy says:

Christine makes a good point. I prefer primates to look me in the eye when we talk, and MailChimp always has something to say!

    • Ben says:

In MailChimp’s culture (which is incidentally the same as Chuck Norris’ culture), it’s rude to look at someone directly in the eye, except when challenging that someone to a death match. So you might consider his lack of eye contact as a sign of affection.

Congrats on the new look! Your brand is so fun …

      Cheers (and bananas!),

I really preferred the old look, the old logo and the old chimp, but I love the new/added messages –– that part is very cool and makes me smile!

I really, really miss the old monkey! Like the rest of the website’s new look, but this change reminds me of the flashier, fakier “updated” Star Wars movies. Animatronics were way more loveable than these newfandangled digital versions. I’m all for technology, but simple is sometimes just more endearing. :)

    • Ben says:

Hi Mari, thanks for the input. We wanted to give the chimp a more modern, richer, updated look. We also wanted to reflect MailChimp’s increasing power and sophistication. But we didn’t want to go “all corporate.” We’re working on an updated website now, and we think that you’ll like the way the new logo integrates when you see the “full picture.” We promise to never use digital technology for evil. No jar-jars, ever.

I’m all for progress, but I liked the stamp-bordered affiliate logo. Small. Discreet. Funny monkey giving you the Chuck Norris death match stare.

Do you plan to adapt the new ape to that template? Pretty please?

I mourn the loss of my old friend, he was just a head, but that head was funnier than the new guy(and less hairy)–I used to login just to see what he’d say. I sort of feel like my awesome co-worker has left me behind and his replacement just isn’t the same. The jokes, the one-liners, they’re the same, but the delivery (no Chuck Norris stare?!)just doesn’t make me chuckle out loud anymore. I’m not afraid change, not really…cause, hey, I really like the other new stuff. Ah, well, c’est la vie…
