MailChimp Goes International - 15 Translations Coming Soon

June 27th, 2008 | by Ben

earth-chimp1.jpgWe’re currently working on MailChimp v3.2. Along with a few other really cool features, we’re going to have translated versions of our entire opt-in process (signup forms, welcome emails, error messages—everything) in the following languages:

  • Danish
  • Dutch
  • French (European)
  • German
  • Italian
  • Norwegian
  • Portuguese (Brazilian)
  • Spanish (Latin American)
  • Swedish

Those are the languages our customers have been asking for the most. Any other requests?

Please chime in below with comments. We may be able to work more translations into this release if we get enough suggestions soon enough.

And speaking of MailChimp traveling abroad: Natalya Kungurtseva, a very nice artist from Kazakhstan, sends us “Frederick von Chimpenheimer IV Travels The World” (we turned her beautiful artwork into a .MOV slideshow).

Update: Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Spanish (EU), Hindi, and French (Canadian) have been added to the list.

A huge THANK YOU from brazilian mailchimpers!

    • Nicky says:

Por favor, español de España. Gracias.

    • Alastair says:

      We second Marc.
Having mailchimp handle Japanese would be fantastic.

    • Ben says:

Ok, looks like the translation service is not going to be able to get us more in time for v3.2’s release end of this month.

New translations will need to wait for v3.3 (maybe end of August, depending on the features we plan)

So far for v3.3, we’ve got Japan, Korean, Chinese, and Spanish/Spain on the list.

    • Fer says:

We second Nicky. Please add spanish (Spain).

    • david says:

Español de España es el idioma mas importante para sus traducciones.

    • elojas says:

      OK, good news.
With the Portuguese (Brazilian) you can go to Portuguese (European)

    • DavidMcL says:

For my Canadian clients, Canadian French (as opposed to the European version) would be a nice thing.

    • carrie says:

would really love to see mailchimp in both traditional and simplified Chinese. looking forward.

    • Jordy van der Heide says:

I’m currently in the process of selecting an e-mail marketing application for a Dutch company. Adding our languague would be great! It gives me an extra reason to persuade management to go for Mailchimp! Could you drop me a line when it’s available?

    • Dimitris says:

A Greek version would be great for us in Greece. Maybe we can help you do it.

    • Trav says:

Any chance we can have Arabic?

Please!!!! C’mon the Chimp, I know you can do it!!

    • Daniel Agustianus says:

      Indonesia please.
      Thanks…

    • esther says:

I want to sign up for free just to learn more about Chimp mail and see if I can recommend it to the companies I work for. But it’s not possibile because I enter my yahoo account and then have to give my cell phone number but that’s in Italy so I cann’t sign up for free from Italy? Thanks for a quick reply Esther

    • Ben says:

Hi Esther, you just have to signup with another email address. Preferably with the same domain name as your website. The SMS verification has helped a lot of users get by with using Yahoo, Gmail, etc., but it’s not 100% perfect. Yet.

    • cem gundogan says:

I am ready to translate it into Turkish for free.

    • Irene says:

I second Daniel Agustianus. Bahasa Indonesia please.

    • Steve Cracknell says:

We work with both English- and French-speaking customers and really need a French version of Mailchimp. Do you have any update on the timescale for this?

      • Ben says:

Hi Steve, Translating our entire application to other languages is a big undertaking, so will not be complete anytime in the near future. If you help French customers, you can setup their MailChimp signup forms, thank you emails, and everything that’s “customer-facing” to be French (or a bunch of other languages). Additionally, our campaign building interface supports just about any language (just not the “right-to-left ones”). If you want customers to have access to their stats and metrics, you can use our API to program a custom web page (in French) that displays all their reports for them.
