Google Analytics Plugin for Wordpress

July 14th, 2009 | by Ben

thm-wp-pluginWe’ve been busy. In addition to all the new MailChimp v4.2 features we just launched, we’ve also been working with the folks at Crowdfavorite to build an awesome new (and totally free!) Google Analytics plugin for Wordpress.

In a nutshell, it uses the power of Google Analytics to tell bloggers what kind of an effect they’re having on overall website traffic. We’ve made it super easy to tell if your blog posts (and email campaigns) are driving traffic to your website — it’s all embedded right in your Wordpress Dashboard!

You don’t have to be a MailChimp customer to use or benefit from this plugin. But if you do happen to have a MailChimp account, we’ll mash in your MailChimp campaign stats too, giving you a bird’s eye view of the cause and effect of all your hard work.

It’s so cool that words don’t do it any justice. You need to watch this video, then download the free plugin now:

mailchimp, i love your product and your team never ceases to amaze me. I will work with my team to get this plugin integrated.

Is it me or does the voiceover in this video sound identical to the voiceover on the @virginamerica in-flight safety video? I wouldn’t be surprised if its the same guy.

      Cheers…I mean eeeeep!

I can’t tell which is the killer feature: the visualizations, the in-dashboard data, or the cause/effect illustrated by the campaign and blog post dots.

A great plugin and Crowd Favorite was glad to be a part of it!

It’d be even cooler if you could add extra traffic sources to the tabs on the dashboard easily :) I’ve added it myself with a simple hack for now:

Any FAQ’s on why I might be getting “Error: Authentication with Google did not succeed. Please try again.” I keep getting this over and over despite successfully logging into Google… help?

    • Dave Billones says:

Great! that you have developed this plugin. Keep up the good work..

    • Jake Linkowski says:

I am getting the same error of “Error: Authentication with Google did not succeed. Please try again.” I have created the Mail Chimp account, also allowed access from Google Analytics, yet still the error. Any help.

    • Jon Skinner says:

I like the idea of it but can not get to work…
      I get this error:

Fatal error: Cannot clone object of class SimpleXMLElement due to ‘zend.ze1_compatibility_mode’ in /home/www/wholesomeproductions.com.au/blog/wp-content/plugins/analytics360/php/settings.php on line 104

If anyone has any tips would be grateful…

      Cheers.
      Jon.

Just installed. Its a great plugin, thanks.

The only feature it lacks its the ability to show in the authors dashboard also.

That would be great for multi autored blogs

    • Jürgen Koller says:

Same error here: “Error: Authentication with Google did not succeed. Please try again.”

    • Jim says:

What a great plugin. I like it better than the current one offered.

      Hi Ben,

My company Pronto Marketing uses MailChimp for both our own mail lists and the lists we manage for clients. We have a service where we provide complete online marketing; web, SEO, newsletter services to smaller IT service companies. We do the hosting, updates, content development, list management – they outsource everything to us. We currently have about 40 clients but this will be growing to several hundred over the next year. Most have fairly small lists – I’d guess we’ll be averaging a few hundred names per client list.

We started with a separate MailChimp account for each client but for better management a few months back we consolidated them into one account and manage all client lists within that one account. We’ve gone back and forth on this from an administration and cost perspective and centralized seemed the best. But there are trade-offs either way.

      Today we came across the new MailChimp + Google Analytics WordPress plug-in and this is exactly what we need. But we have some questions, first some details;

      • All our sites are WordPress-based, hosted on WordPress MU on a dedicated server.
      • Each client has a WordPress website and will have credentials to access the Admin panel or dashboard with edit permissions.
      • We want to be able to allow each client to view their web and newsletter analytics – and only theirs

Our question is given our business and client model, and your technical requirements to implement this plug-in, how should we be managing the client accounts? Is it possible from a single account to do this? What are your recommendations?

Thank you for your time – we are really looking forward to getting our hands on this plug-in so we can monkey around with it.

      Regards,
      Vee

Love this plugin so much I want to share it with my woprdpress site co-editors. Any chance of having an option to do that in next releases?

      • ruigato says:

Im looking for the same thing.. Hope they add this feature. we shoul be able to config if authors can see the stats.

    • indie_preneur says:

Looks great (as usual for MC) – but what are the main differences VS Google Analyticator for Wordpress?

    • BlogCini says:

      Very useful plugins, thank you.

    • Margarida Fernandes says:

I am currently using Google Analytics for WordPress by Yoast (http://yoast.com/wordpress/google-analytics/) and I was wondering if I want to install Analytics360 to better track my campaigns, can I have both plugins installed?
And is it necessary? Or does Analytics360 give me the same google analytics reports and options as Google Analytics for WordPress by Yoast? Because this plugin tracks all my pages and comments. I don’t know if Analytics360 does that too, or if it just tracks campaigns.

    • Margarida Fernandes says:

Just one more thing I forgot: I know I can see the analytics reports directely in my wordpress admin Panel, but can I access those results also in google analytics? Can I create a filter in google analytics to show me just the report of my mailchimp campaign stats?
