HTML Email on Apple's iPhone
Does Apple's new iPhone change the way we have to code HTML email? No.July 18, 2007
We recently acquired an iPhone (couldn't resist!). The first thing we did? Checked how HTML email renders on the iPhone (yeah, we're nerds that way). We'll cut to the chase: it renders perfectly. Almost too perfectly. It's scary good. Video demo below.
Note: This is the HTML email campaign that we tested on the iPhone.
Observations about HTML Email rendering on Apple's iPhone:
Mark (he's the uber-nerd in charge of MailChimp programming, and is the world's craziest Mac freak) did some extensive testing with HTML email on the iPhone, and made the following observations:
- Basically, HTML emails just work. Typical Apple. Giving us nothing to complain about. Sigh.
- JavaScript works.
- CSS works perfectly.
- Rollovers don't work - which makes sense, when you think about the iPhone's interface (no mouse, so nothing to really roll over).
- iFrames work, which could be really, really cool in email marketing campaigns. You could embed time-sensitive content into HTML email campaigns (like flight data, or restaurant menu specials) that auto-updates whenever the recipient opens the email. Crazy.
